I got this from TSR just about 6 years ago. Dave Neeley came up with this recipe and we love it! Dave’s clone of Popeye’s Red Beans & Rice 2 15 oz. cans Red Beans, drained & rinsed 1 1/2 T. butter 1/2 t. garlic salt 1/8 t. 1/4 t. liquid Smoke flavoring 1/4 t. onion powder 1 1/2 c. water 3/4 t. white pepper (more or less to taste) 1/4 t. salt 1/4 t. ham flavoring (if desired) – I use a ham seasoning packet from Goya *opt. smoked ham, minced Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan, bring to boil. Stir constantly. Smash some of the beans with a potato masher, continuing to stir constantly. Cook for about 20 minutes, until the broth has thickened – over medium heat. Serve over cooked rice.
